8. Felix Da Housecat – Radio (Shinichi Osawa Remix)
7. Lil Wayne – Lollipop

6. Kanye West – Love Lockdown
808s & Heartbreaks is a Top 5 album of the year for me, and this track introduced the world to what West was about to do to Hip Hop, and it’s a beautiful thing.

5. Fleet Foxes – He Doesn’t Know Why
It was good to hear a few guys who can sing really well without an autotune. Psychedelic.

4. Deadmau5 – Faxing Berlin
Podcasts, clubs from New Orleans to Shanghai, Beatport, played this song ragged. For good reason too: it’s a trance masterpiece, that warms you immediately. Completely enjoyable for dance fans.

3. Christian Scott – The Crawler
I don’t remember being more excited about a musician last year than when I heard Christian. I thought Jazz was dead, and it might be, but don’t tell Mr. Scott. The fact that he went to school with my Guest Music Picker, Captain, made it extra special to listen to.

2. Coldplay – Viva La Vida
Everyone knows that these Brits can do wrong with their magic formula, at times (especially for musicians) it's maddening. Nevertheless, they did it, and not you. The lyrics sealed the deal on this one: A history lesson, a dramatic orchestral push, all over an extremely unique and interesting emphasis on downbeats. I can’t think of another song that sounds like this, yet it still follows their simple formula for creating pop masterpieces.

1. Lil Wayne – A Milli
The biggest track on the biggest album of the year, Tha Carter III. ‘Nuff said.

super mega midwest summer post

Reporting from Chicago land, P-town, and everywhere you fear in the midwest... this is the shit you would want to know about to improve your personal steeze! (note how I used red, white, and blue to describe different location in America, symbolizing the patriotic pride we should all express for our cunt-tree in the olympic games... let's hope politics don't get involved!)

Summer music you need to experience:

Jammers:

Weatherbox - American Art
Sounds like Say Anything with equally good lyrics about life, drugs, and relationships in the same sarcastic humorous tone. Tight shit.

Built To Spill - Ancient Melodies Of The Future
One of my favorite bands. I had the opportunity of seeing them live at the Avalon in Boston. It was one of the best shows i have ever experienced, and they had the strangest crowd... every age group and most ethnicities were represented, all with a common love for good music and WEED. Everything they make is pure gold. Also listen to/buy "Live," "Perfect From Now On," "There's Nothing Wrong With Love"

American Football - "Self Titled"
One of the all time greatest summer night cds. Pop this bad larry in, roll up a J, and take a cruse with that special someone... chances are you will fall in love with each other forever... or at least get some dome.

Rogue Wave - Out of the Shadow
Kinda sounds like the shins.... key work is "kinda." They are a talented indie rock band. Shit Linc Halloran would listen to. Check out the song "Sewn Up."

Bear Vs. Shark - Right Now, You're in the Best of Hands. And If Something Isn't Quite Right, Your Doctor Will Know in a Hurry.
They give me that summer hippie/Vermont feel good feeling.

Matisyahu = Live at Stubb's
If you don't know him by now.... your a faggot, no offense. Go online and find the sickkkk version of "close my eyes" It's like real reggae shit mang.

Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
Chill solo's. peaceful lyrics.

Brand New - Your Favorite Weapon
A classic. Buy two forties (preferably Hurricanes) and rock out with old friends, to songs that were your moto's in highschool.

Modest Mouse - Everywhere and His Nasty Parlor Tricks
My favorite band. This CD, along with there new one "We were dead before the ship sank" are summer.

Boys Night Out- Make Yourself Sick
It's dylan... you know the drill.

Saves The Day - Can't Slow Down
classssssssiccccsssssss. Listen to them. Love them. Buy all there other cds, especially "through being cool" and "stay what you are"

Oest - SideStory
If you don't already know, you never will.

Northstar - Pollyanna
Ultimate Summer CD. (i do like there first cd much more however... but thats like sooo fall and winter). Once again, find a girl, camp on the beach, go pool hoping, and quit your day job to this shit.

XXX:

Anterrabae - Shakedown Tonight
stellar breakdowns. There other cd is rad too.

Give Up The Ghost (American Nightmare) - Background Music
get ya mosh on.

Saosin - Translating the Name
Anthony Green. Need I say more? Also download "I Can Tell." Then kill yourself.

Comeback Kid - Turn it Around
Go out and fight everyone.

Have Heart - The Things We Carry
Go out and fight everyone for good reasons! That's some Boston hardcore for you.

Glassjaw - Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence
This guy is so angry... probably due to his intense lack of control of pooping. Turns out good things can come from shit!

The Secret - Luce
metal. metal. metal.

Beats / Instrumental:

Toe - The Book About My Idle Plot On A Vague Anxiety
Japanese band. Crazy drumming. Do your homework to it.

Explosions In the Sky- The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place
Get high and make up movies in your head.

Notorious B.I.G - Life After Death
a classic "let's get fucked up a make bad decisions" cd. I do like "Ready To Die' more however.

Girl Talk - Feed The Animals
Let's dance. Let's do drugs.

Ghost And Vodka - Addicts and Drunks
happy instruments in key with each other.

Singles of the Month:
Norah Jones: Don't Know Why
M.I.A. : Paper Planes
MC Chris: Wiid (is by my side)
Saosin: I Can Tell
Lil Wayne: A Milli

T.V Entertainment You should Know:
(granted I never watch T.V so who the fuck am I to give advice?)

Tim And Eric Awesome Show. Great Job!
some of the funnies short videos I have ever seen. Do yourself a favor... get blown and go to adultswim.com to watch them all.

Dexter

Dexter is a crazy TV series on showtime about a serial killer with a conscience. Watch the first season and fall in love. I give the stamp of approval. Oh... and if you haven't seen all the Entourages yet, you should get on top of that.

OKAY! THATS ALL! i'm not feeling it anymore (note how the further you scroll on this post, the way shittier it gets). In the mean time study this picture of Shane and I in NYC. It's soo fucking artsy it hurts.

ps. look forward to my next post about fratastic dudes I know, minivans, and super summertime jobs! (or jerbs in the south)

KICK UP SOME DUST, SYRACUSE

why does summer time always make me wish i lived in new york and could easily attend hellfest? i love sing-alongs and headwalking, so here we go. some of my favorite hellfest video parts. no particular order, of course.

dillinger escape plan- the mullet burden

terror- another face

norma jean- memphis will be laid to waste

everytime i die- the logic of crocodiles (drummer in very early johnny cupcakes)
listen for the amazing delayed breakdown

bane- give blood- this singer has the best intro speeches for songs.

and lastly, just for good measure, a video of dillinger setting their drums on fire and getting shut down.
dillinger escape plan- 43% burnt

i fucking live for this shit and am sorry for anyone who has never been exposed to hardcore and its amazing atmosphere. real talk
