It was good to hear a few guys who can sing really well without an autotune. Psychedelic.

4. Deadmau5 – Faxing Berlin
Podcasts, clubs from New Orleans to Shanghai, Beatport, played this song ragged. For good reason too: it’s a trance masterpiece, that warms you immediately. Completely enjoyable for dance fans.

3. Christian Scott – The Crawler
I don’t remember being more excited about a musician last year than when I heard Christian. I thought Jazz was dead, and it might be, but don’t tell Mr. Scott. The fact that he went to school with my Guest Music Picker, Captain, made it extra special to listen to.

2. Coldplay – Viva La Vida
Everyone knows that these Brits can do wrong with their magic formula, at times (especially for musicians) it's maddening. Nevertheless, they did it, and not you. The lyrics sealed the deal on this one: A history lesson, a dramatic orchestral push, all over an extremely unique and interesting emphasis on downbeats. I can’t think of another song that sounds like this, yet it still follows their simple formula for creating pop masterpieces.

This one is full of mostly old stuff just because summertime brings up old memories with friends. listening to some of these cd's on the way to the beach or to an out of town show were like the best times of my life. so let's go.

1. Minus the Bear- highly refined pirates

this cd is the fucking bomb. any time i hear any song on it, i know exactly how the next song is gonna start. it's that kind of cd. know what i mean?

2. Falling Cycle- the conflict

so brutal. this was one of the bands that played the first hardcore show i ever went to back in ninth grade. the drummer lit his drums on fire right before a breakdown. i can listen to this whole cd on full blast and nothing sounds old or overdone. come on.

3. Billy Joel- the essential billy joel

the man.

4. Madball- hold it down

i loved this band in high school, despite their blatant, digusting new york sound. last summer my friend brian broke this out on vinyl when we were super faded and we had those good kind of flashbacks where you want to mosh in a living room. there's just something about em.

5. Underoath- the changing of times

still one of my favorite cd's from back in the day. this was the last cd with dallas and probably one of their best. i was at his last show with them in ocala at some indoor basketball court. it was the illest, kids were jumping off the hoops and killing each other. probably that show and every other time i got to see them play a church or some rec center were truly some of the best days.

This german photographer is known for his enormous prints of everyday objects and scenes that when blown up look deceiving and warrant a second look. he has gone to many places that other people are not allowed/would be scared to even visit let alone document, i.e. North Korea. his subjects are limited to pretty much nothing and are more based on his point of view and particular style. when i was in munich last winter i got to visit one of his exhibits at Haus der Kunst and immediately became obsessed. seeing these photos up close is even more of a mind fuck because you actually have to stand across the room to see what they really are.

You and a MONSTER is the brain child of my cousin and close friend Matt Jackson. With help from with his younger brother Ryan, Dylan Collins, who will guest write on this site while spending the fall traveling in Europe, and Jackson "Bear Claws" Eastwick, aptly named for his lumber jack hands, the four began printing shirts a few months ago and they are incredible. Here is some of Matt's original artwork that will be photoshopped and printed in the coming year. Matt is also an up-and-coming tattoo artist and hopes to be tattooing his work on young flesh soon. I took these pictures on my blackberry from Matt's notebook while he was on a burn run to BK. So keep in mind, these are just sketches. But the kid is very, very talented. 1. Modest Mouse- Lonesome Crowded West

A mon avis, Modest Mouse is the greatest band of our generation. This is their masterpiece. The lyrics on this album are as good as lyrics get. Issac Brock is an ambassador for words. If you don't have this album you are a fucking idiot.

2. Every Time I Die- The Big Dirty

I bought this album a while back and never really gave it a chance but when I threw it in the other day I was more than pleased. Its not HOT DAMN!, their face-melting, gut-trashing 2003 drop, but it's great. The notable shift in sound from straight-up brutal metalcore to Southern Rock marks their maturity as a band. Definitely different, but righteous all the same.

I saw this band years ago when they were called Sundaze at a tiny church in Newburyport, MA. They're so tight...drums, guitars; everything. Original sound. Inspiring jams. Fellas, if you can't land a hunny with this album there is something seriously wrong with you. Great sex jams. I promise.

Even Fifth Graders Recognize that I'm an Asshole

My brother arrived home yesterday from his military base in North Carolina. It is the first time I've seen him since we drove from Groveland, Massachusetts to Marina Del Ray, CA (Los Angeles Area) the day after Christmas to make sure he made it safely to his base for bomb school. So, to mark the occasion I elected to spend the day with him teaching Social Studies at my former elementary school; in my mother's class.

The lesson was on The American Revolution. I asked the class of fifth graders, who looked like second graders, who originally settled New York City and what European Nation the first settlers hailed from: New Amsterdam and the Dutch. Right. I was rather impressed.

Anyway, apparently my mother told them the story about how I got arrested the last week of high school for planting fake-ticking-alarm-clock-bombs throughout the school. One noted, "I can tell why he's the one who got sarrested." I guess it is a complement that a 10 year old recognizes my "fuck the world" attitude.

Senator Specter (R-PA) can honestly suck himself if he wants to continue spending tax dollars on an independent Congressional investigation on whether or not the Patriots taped the Rams' Superbowl walkthrough in 2002.

First of all Arlen, do you think that everyone forgets you are a die-hard Eagles fan? I'm guessing you believe if you can prove the Patriots taped a walkthrough from seven years ago, which has been definitively determined by the head of the governing body of the National Football League, commissioner Roger Goodell, to be simply untrue, that you'll be able to raise doubt about the Patriots ass-kicking of your beloved Eagles three years later...NO!

Do us all a favor and SHUT THE FUCK UP. There are many other issues that deserve your attention like say...ANYTHING other than fucking football. This is absolutely outrageous and Arlen, you a fucking moron.

Perhaps an independent Congressional investigation into the contents of Dunkin Donuts' coffee would be more appropriate. It there isn't crack in it, someone is lying.
